After struggling for hours to get my WWAN card, a Qualcomm GOBI 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205, I finally found a way to make it work.
When first installed, using normal Windows 7 drivers it looked like it worked but little but it never received a signal. I found a dialog showing me that it was on CDMA.
I then searched the web for a way to make it change the firmware to UTMS and alot of posts suggest that running the installer with DEFAULTIMAGE=6 will sove this issue however I seemed to me like nothing changed.
With Windows 7 you can install the Access Connection Manager but that is not available on Windows 8, so that was a no go.
I then tried all sorts of hacks which didn’t get me any where.
Finally I found that both Lenovo and Sony have tools to set this image to something else than CDMA and i went and downloaded and installed: OneClick Internet which did all the difference. It was able to detect the card and everything.
I then clicked “Settings” in the window and chose the Firwware tab.
Set it to generic UMTS and clicked Change.
This made the program stall and in the end I cancelled it and started over.
I then remember I read another post suggesting that setting it to Vodaphone would works as well – even if it’s a SIM card from another company. I did and it worked! Suddenly there was a signal and once I clicked “Connect” it worked! I am online and life is good!
You can download Sony OneClick Internet from here:
